Rejections from literary magazines and publishing houses are an inevitable part of a poet’s journey…

In fact, there are entire Facebook groups and forums dedicated solely to Poetry Rejection, which often entails collectively licking our wounds after we receive a particularly stinging (or generic) ‘no thank you’.

The truth is, not every poem will speak to every person. And I’m going to share a secret with you right now…

THAT IS TOTALLY OKAY.

Not everyone is going to like our poetry, just like not everyone is going to like us.

But these rejections can still sting, no matter how your day has one. They can kick us while we already feel down or stressed or knock us off our perch, even on the best days.

The way I see it, rejections are opportunities.

They don’t feel good, but there are things we can do to use them as fuel for our own growth and success.
